Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 – finally here, but not as i expected (get it now at just $249)

For those eagerly waiting for the Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, here is a sneak peak of it, this is surely not the tablet you expect.

Earlier this year, a couple of rumors surfaced about the specs of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Pad 3. And naturally, I was excited to see if it will become a powerful gaming tablet, which the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was obvious not. It was first rumored to offers a brand new and faster chipset, I think it was a Kaby Lake Chip, but looking at the specs below. I have compared it to the Mi Pad 2 for good comparison, did it upgrade? or Downgrade?

Highlights of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 3:

  • Chipset or hardware is disappointing
  • No chance of Dual OS support
  • Not really an upgrade, more like a downgrade from the Mi Pad 2
  • Not really worth getting one, if you already have the Mi Pad 2
  • Expect Gaming and Multitasking Performance to be average
  • It will still offer Premium Build Quality similar to the Mi Pad 2
  • Good Sounding Speakers
  • USB Type C and Quick Charging Support
  • Dual Band WiFi support is still supported
  • Camera has been bumped to 13 MP and supports 1080p Video
  • Battery is smaller now at just 6000mAh instead of 6190 on the Mi pad 2
  • No MicroSD Support, No HDMI Port

Advantages of getting the new Xiaomi Mi Pad 3:

  • Pure Android Platform, no more choosing between Windows or Android System
  • Still the same Retina Screen, which is probably the best feature available
  • Great Battery life, expect about 6 – 7 hours per use of this one
  • Speakers will still offer great Audio Quality
  • Fast Charging via USB Type C still available
  • Much better rear camera performance

The table above is very self explanatory. It appears, Xiaomi is going full force on the budget market, replacing the Atom Chip with a Hexacore Mediatek Chipset, which is similar to the JDTabl J01. It also comes with an PowerVR GX6250. Chipsets that are not really great for gaming, nor for multitasking. It will still feature a premium build quality similar to the Mi Pad 2, the screen retails the 2K Retina Display and a 7.9 inch Display. It will also run only MIUI 8.0, no dual OS support because the Mediatek chip doesn’t support this. Anyway, I think this is more of a multimedia tablet, which is what the Mi Pad 2 was. It is expected to cost around $220-250, depending on the reseller.

So, What are your thoughts of the new Xiaomi Mi Pad 2?

    1. Hello Jack,

I agree 100%, What the heck was Xiaomi doing, They could have used an even faster chip, like Samsungs Exynos, Snapdragon 820. I like it on Android only, but man, the hardware is too underpowered.

      Best Regards,
      Vince

      1. Right… I was expecting a lot from Pad 3 because Pad 2 is really a joke…

When the entry level iPad is only US$329, I really don’t see why I have to pick this Android tablet.

Well, now I can use my money for a gimbal.

        1. If it had Skylake or much better a Kaby Lake Chip underneath and at around $250 to $280, then that would have been great. Or maybe a Snapdragon 821 chip (same with Xiaomi Mi5s).
