Consumer friendly version

It can be quite confusing, seeing a lot of Teclast X98 variants in the market. The Teclast X98 Plus is basically a cheaper and slightly slower version of the X98 Pro. The hardware similarities speaks for itself. The X98 Plus is powered by Intel Atom X5-Z8300 Cherry Trail Chipset, which can only turbo boost up to 1.83GHz. However, i do think this difference is marginal and would not be clearly noticeable on real world test.

Nearly Identical hardware but more interesting

As you can see on the table above, the X98 Plus sports 4 GB Low Powered Memory and 64 GB eMMC Storage out of the box, the tablet also sports the same Retina Display on all the X98 variants. What likely will entice consumers is the pricing, it is cheaper and more budget friendly. Furthermore, the tablet now offers Dual OS on stock.

  1. Hi,

Im a student.. I need a tablet for school for watching a lot of videos.. like video recording of lectures and probably some movies, tv series and animes as i tend to get bored…also for reading pdfs, docs and powerpoint files.. No plans on using this for gaming at all.

I want a tablet with a really good screen that has good enough performance..

Im just wondering which one should i get… teclast x98 pro or plus? or chuwi hi10?

    Thanks for your advice…

    • Hello Mike,

The X98 Pro has the X8500 Cherry Trail, which is clocked faster than the X8300 versions, but the difference is just negligible. I was only able to test extensively the Teclast X98 Pro. I understand that you will be using it more like a laptop, and not a gaming tablet. Then the Teclast X98 Pro would more than suffice, you should also know that the speakers are not that loud and you will only be able to enjoy videos or youtube via Earphone. The screen is pretty good, true Retina Display and build quality is top notch. But it all depends on your budget, the Chuwi Hi10 is a bit cheaper, also the X98 Pro Plus.
PS, i think you should get dual OS tablets, because Android and windows 10 experience is completely different.

      Best Regards,

  2. Hi vince,

Thank you for your input. I think i’m a bit convinced now with the teclast x98 pro… Just two more things… about the thermal issue of x98 pro, is it really that much of a problem? like is it really hot or its tolerable enough to hold when it heats up?? Especially since im going to use this primarily for watching videos…

And does x98 pro and plus comes with the exact same display? Are there any difference in terms of brightness, colour, clarity of the display?

I really appreciate your help.. Thanks again

    • Hello Mike,

Not really, what i would describe is that the temp ramps up immediately, like it sits around 48 to 50% idle, and ramps up to 70+ on moderate usage. But there is no decrease in performance. The hottest it’s got was 82C on Core 1 and 77C on the other cores (when stressed 100%). But on most usage, i got around 50-60C, youtube, using Google Chrome, watching movies. I don’t normally use the tablet for heavy task, i have a laptop for that.
In terms of the screen, what i know is that the X98 Series share the same screen type, but the X98 Plus, which is newer, i’m not entirely sure.
Going back on the screen, it is real retina, comparable with iPad Mini (my sister has one), it’s clear, no problems with it.
I normally use my X98 Pro for downloading large files, because the battery typically last around 6 hours of frugal usage (that means only downloading)

      Best Regards,

  3. I have one on order but a question on how dual-boot android/windows tablets work. Does each OS have access to the same files? I.e., if I have an SD card with movies on it, can each OS access the files in their respective video player? Does the same go for the system files, etc.?

    • Hello Shane,

Dual OS tablets have each OS on separate Partitions, but they can access or store files on the Same storage (MicroSD). It doesn’t mean, that both OS are running simultaneously, but rather, you can switch to your preference. In terms of storage, it is recommended to get the 64 GB if you Dual OS, because what is left is usually not a lot.

      Best Regards,

  4. Hi,

Seems like the 3G version has some difference, I’ve noticed the specs on your link tells it has a 2.0 MP camera at the rear and not 5.0 MP like the non 3G version.

Can someone confirm this difference? and is it the only one?

    • Hello Didier,

I think it’s just the same camera, anyway, this is just a reboot with new hardware placed on it and a 3G module also added.

      Best Regards,

  5. Good day. I prefer a dual OS tab that i can use a pen or stylus on. Is this possible with the teclast pro? If not, which can u recommend that has win 10 n Android 5? Also where can i get it? Thanks.

    • Hello Rity,

What kind of Stylus do you prefer? Wacom or Active Stylus. In terms of difference, Wacom is much for productivity, drawing, graphics, etc… There is also handwriting Stylus, which is an alternative to fingers.

      Best Regards,

  6. Hi Vince, great work. Do the Teclast X98 Pro & Plus have Google Play and Google Play Services? In Android, in Settings does “DISPLAY” work?

What are the technical reasons some DualOS devices do not have Google Play Store? Something to do with Intel chip? Example ONDA v919 Air CH 4GB RAM win10+ android 5.1 cannot have Google Play thus making it totally useless.

  7. What kind of stylus does it use? I need it to be accurate like Wacom and not handwriting stylus like a finger. Does the device come with a stylus ?

    • Hello ben,

The Android part can make calls and text, the Windows OS can only do data connection/Internet.

      Best Regards,

  8. Does Teclast x98 plus 3G supports active touchscreen stylus? I mean a generic stylus that can be used on Apple ipad pro.Or is there any other different stylus that is compatible with this tablet?
