If you look at the specs, the Xiaomi Mi Air 13 Kaby Lake Edition is quite similar with the Mi Notebook Pro. But really, it is a reboot of last year of the same name. It is now slightly powerful and with the new Nvidia 150MX GPU, it offers much better gaming potential.

Still, it is a premium and the price is actually close to the Mi Notebook Pro. Also, it still suffers the same issues with last year, the lack of legit OS is still present here.

Full Highlights:

  • Now comes with a new Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 7200U Chip (10% increase from Skylake)
  • Nvidia 150MX (upgrade over the GT940MX)

Cons:

  • Battery capacity hasn’t change
  • Can get hot on prolong gaming with thermal throttling
  • Windows 10 is Chinese Only version
  • Non Touch screen

Why get the Teclast Master T10? Well, for the budget, you get an overall very solid tablet. First of all, the screen is amazing, a 10.1 inch IPS Fully Laminated 2560 x 1600 pixel screen. Also the OS is clean, fast, slick and no bloatwares. You will also be surprise with the gaming performance, considering the Mid-tier CPU underneath, it has no problems running top tier Android games in the market.

In addition, it has one of the best Front Facing Camera on a tablet that I have tested and perfect for conference calls or taking photos and videos. Probably, the only comment I can give about this tablet is the lack of USB Type C Support and the weird placement of the fingerprint scanner.

Full Highlights below:

  • Amazing 10.1 inch IPS JDI OGS 2560 x 1600 pixel screen, meaning it is fully laminated
  • Performance is decent as well as above average gaming performance (Mediatek MT8176 and PowerVR GX6250)
  • Clean system, no bloatwares, UI is also well organized (Android 7.0 Nougat)
  • Stable system with no issues with performance
  • Premium build (Oleophobic Coating)

  • Surpringly very reliable rear Fingerprint ID

The Teclast Master T8 is basically a smaller version of the Teclast Master T10, but it does come with several changes or improvements. Teclast even advertised it as “Born to Game”, with reiteration of it being a mobile gaming device. And from the looks of it, it surely is.

It is has a smaller screen at 8.4 inches but the same high quality Fully Laminated 2560 x 1600 pixel screen. Also it now comes with USB Type C and the Fingerprint Scanner is now on the home button (combo Front Touch ID).

Highlights of the Teclast Master T8:

  • 8.4 inch IPS JDI OGS 2560 x 1600 pixels (Fully Laminated)

The Chuwi Lapbook Air is the latest and probably the best looking Ultrabook from the company. Even with a mediocre CPU, the build quality and gorgeous look makes it a must have. One would compare it to a less powerful Xiaomi Mi Air 12, but also cheaper.

Chuwi obviously made leaps and bounds making this an almost Macbook Air Carbon copy, and it definitely looks like it. What it lacks in performance, makes up on aesthetics.

Full Highlights:

  • Anodize Aluminum Build
  • 14.1 inch IPS 1920 x 1080p Fully Laminated Retina Screen
  • 7H Mohs Hardness Scale (Glass), 0.2mm Compact Lamination
  • Powered by Intel Apollo Lake Celeron N3450 Quad Core, Intel Graphics 500
  • 8 GB Dual Channel RAM and 128 GB eMMC
  • Supports M.2 SSD Expansion
  • Dual Band WiFi (2.4/5GHz)
  • Back-lit Keyboard
  • 2x USB 3.0 Slots
  • 33.7Wh Battery (10000mAh) – 8 hours life

C0ns:

  • Skylake Chip would have been better
  • not the best keyboard experience
  • No SSD Storage at stock (but upgradable)
  • Pricey for a Celeron based Chip

When were talking about Surface Book clones, the Cube Thinker i35 Notebook will always come to mind. It is actually a pure notebook but also offers a 3K screen with support for a Surface Book Stylus. Thus, i would consider it a hybrid.

Nevertheless, it is also powerful, offering Kaby Lake Chipset inside and good overall connectivity. But one thing I can say, is that build quality and some of the features are not really comparable to the Xiaomi Mi Air 12.

Highlights of the Cube Thinker Notebook

  • 13.5 inch Fully Laminated 3K Display and Touchscreen, 3:2 Aspect Ratio
  • Stylus Support (1024 pressure sensitivity) Surface Book Stylus supported
  • All Metal Premium Build and Design
  • Powered by Intel Kaby Lake Core M3-7Y30
  • Equipped with 8 GB (1867MHz) and 240 GB M.2 SATA3 Foresee SSD
  • Fingerprint Scanner (eLAN W) – built in on Touchpad
  • Dual Band WiFi 802.11 AC 3165
  • Large Touchpad and good size keyboard (offers good overall typing experience)
  • USB Type C
  • 5000mAh battery with a 12V 3A Charger (fast charging support)
  • USB 3.0 (Standard Port) also supports External HDD
  • Good enough for moderate gaming (DOTA 2, LOL, CSGO and other non 3D intensive games)
  • Acceptable temps even on heavy use (can get up to 82°C)

Some Cons:

  • Thermal performance is very interesting (although all metal body has an expected outcome already)
  • Non back lit keyboard
  • Typical Chinese version of Windows 10, if you activate it expect the Product key to be invalid

Jumper Ezbook 3 Pro. I know there has been a lot of Ezbook series Ultrabooks from Jumper, but this is their latest one. The 4th batch or installment, comes with some welcome improvements. These included an M.2 SSD Expansion slot, Dual Band WiFi Support, improvement on the build quality and touchpad performance.

But still, this isn’t a perfect notebook. Performance is still not Mi Air calibre, but it is still good enough for most uses. Also this is the cheapest Ezbook Notebook currently available.

Full Highlights:

  • Improved precision touch pad (much better response and usable)
  • Maintenance hatch and easy removal of slot for SSD storage expansion
  • Unlocked bios for TDP Power Limits
  • New version comes with Dual Band WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4/5GHz)
  • 6 GB RAM and Intel Apollo Lake N3450 Quad Core Chipset
  • Good Keyboard and Touchpad Performance (barely no keyboard flex, and Touchpad works great)
  • 13.3 inch IPS Anti-Glare Matte 1920 x 1080p screen, usable even on direct sunlight
  • 2x USB 3.0 Standard Slots
  • Great Battery Life (4800mAh)
  • Cooper Heatsink (offers great thermals 60-70°C on casual use), full temps reached is 78°C

Some Cons:

  • No USB Type C
  • Non Touch Screen

Recently, the Xiaomi Mi Air 12 Kaby Lake Edition (2017) got a reboot, and now comes with a slightly faster Kaby Lake Chipset. But still, it is one impressive notebook. It is well built, has a great keyboard and touch pad similar to the Macbook Air. From all the notebooks that I’ve tested, this is at the top of my list.

The only comment I can say is probably the lack of touch screen support, which is also true on all Mi Air models. But that is still understandable, considering it is one a great Laptop.

Full Highlights:

  • New KabyLake Chipet offers about 10% more in terms of Performance
  • Stunning Looks and Premium Grade Materials (100% All Aluminum)
  • Reminiscent of a Macbook look
  • Good Thermals (idle 31-39C), Gaming/Heavy load (60°C)
  • Fast SSD Storage (Samsung MZNTV128HDHP SSD )
  • Awesome 1080p IPS Display (Vibrant, Deep Contrast and Wide Viewing Angle)
  • End to End Glass Screen protected by Sapphire Glass
  • Good Quality Front Facing Camera (good for skype)
  • Decent AKG Loudspeakers (high volume, doesn’t distort and crisp sound)
  • Dolby Surround Sound Technology
  • 3.5mm Audio Jack has excellent Audio Quality, no static sounds
  • One of the better 1080p IPS Screen currently available
  • Sturdy hinge design for the screen (can be opened easily one handed)
  • Fast and Stable Dual Band WiFi 2.4/5GHz (Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-8260)
  • One of the best Keyboard and Touch pad I have ever tested
  • Good typing experience, 1.2mm spacing and good tactile feedback and LED Backlit
  • Quick Charging support (Fast Charger can quickly charge 40% to 90% in less than 1 hour)
  • Supports both USB 3.1 and USB Type C (supports external devices)
  • SSD can be upgraded to M.2 SSD
  • Can be used on Video Editing (1080p or lower), Photoshop etc…
  • 5-6 hours average battery life

CONS:

  • Non touch screen (despite the IPS panel) and even on the more expensive models
  • Intel HD615 (gaming potential is limited) – for better gaming, go for the Xiaomi Mi Air 13
  • Limited number of Ports (1x USB 3.0)
  • Comes with Chinese Win10 (only one with valid license), English version (cannot be activated)

Having used the Chuwi Lapbook 12.3 for quite some time, I will always equate it to its gorgeous screen. And from the Notebooks that I have listed here, this is one that offers a whopping Fully Laminated 2736 x 1824 pixels. The same screen you see with the Surface Pro 4. The screen really is amazing and it is also matte, meaning it is great to be used outdoors.

Overall, the notebook isn’t really that powerful but good enough for casual use and the decent keyboard and connectivity make it a must have.

Highlights of the Chuwi Lapbook 12.3:

  • Incredible 12.3 IPS 2736 x 1824 pixel Fully Laminated Screen

  • About 5 hours Battery life with 12V 2A Charger

Cons:

  • Not ideal for gaming
  • Non Touch Screen
  • Lackluster Camera and Loudspeaker performance
